February Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Our thoughts turn to summer and Kneisel Hall as the days are getting longer (warmer to come), Seymour is putting the final touches on the programs (sneak peek below) and the faculty is listening to the hundreds of applications.  By the time of the next newsletter you will have programs and the 2014 class. In the meantime, here are five things to do this month:

1. Subscribe – Audiences need music and musicians need audiences (a perfect match!)
The Festival Artists present 7 weeks of exquisite chamber music; the Attaca Quartet returns with another program of Haydn quartets; Randall Scarlatta, baritone and Lipkin will present Schumann’s song cycle, Dichterliebe; Korliss Uecker, will sing Chausson’s Chanson Perpetuelle for soprano, string quartet and piano and our good friends, A Far Cry, will give us another innovative, exciting pair of concerts. Subscribe today – you do not want to miss a single note! Fridays at 7:30 pm or Sundays at 4:00 pm June 27 – September 5. Just email (festival@kneisel.org) or call the office (207 – 374 – 2811) for information. The 2014 performers:

  • Violin: David Bowlin, Ronald Copes, Laurie Smukler
  • Viola: Doris Lederer, Katherine Murdock
  • Cello: Jerry Grossman, Dmitry Kouzov, Joel Krosnick, Barbara Stein Mallow
  • Piano: Xak Bjerken, Jane Coop, Seymour Lipkin; piano
  • Guests: Attacca String Quartet, Formosa String Quartet, A Far Cry Chamber Orchestra Randall Scarlatt, baritone; Korliss Uecker, soprano

2. ADVERTISE in the KH 2014 Program, The price of an ad is ridiculously low and your ad will be seen by receptive audiences all summer long!  Call: 207 -374-2811 or email:festival@kneisel.org.

3. UNDERWRITE a concert – Underwriting is an enormously important piece of our efforts to support the music we love and the young artists’ studies. Call: 207 -374-2811 or email:festival@kneisel.org

4. Program for ME Students – applications are on line (www.kneisel.org). This year the younger program is TWO days. (Sign up your child/student or pass this information to a young Maine music student.)

5. Join ACMI– adult players – applications are on line (www.kneisel.org). We invite you and your music making friends to spend a week at Kneisel Hall in August. Emailfestival@kneisel.org with any questions.
