A summer at Kneisel Hall represents a significant opportunity to study with distinguished faculty and celebrated guest artists in an environment particularly well suited for the serious student of chamber music.

Kneisel Hall is known for its unusually high faculty/student ratio: ten faculty instruct just 50 students. At the beginning of the summer and again at mid-season, students are placed in at least two ensembles. Each group receives two hours of coaching weekly. The ensembles have daily rehearsals, with repertoire including both classical and contemporary works. The sessions include evening master classes, discussions and individual work with faculty. Each session culminates in a series of well-attended performances. Many parents make it a point to visit the campus during the Young Artist Concerts to share in the excitement of the performances.

Each Friday evening and Sunday afternoon Kneisel Hall presents its public Festival Concerts performed by faculty and guest artists. These concerts are an immensely valuable part of the course of study.

In its mission statement Kneisel Hall is charged with "enrich(ing) the cultural life of our surrounding community". The institution devotes much effort in fulfilling this charge. Therefore, students MUST take part in one of three outreach programs: In School (second week in June) Maine Young Musicians (third week in June) or the after session programs the Adult Chamber Music Institute or the new August outreach performances. Each student will also be assigned one campus job to fulfill all scholarship obligations e.g. ushering, parking attendant, and office help.
