KNEISEL HALL ANNOUNCES 2023 MUSIC FESTIVAL
Blue Hill – Kneisel Hall’s annual Music School and Festival returns for its 121st year on the Blue Hill peninsula.
This season’s guest artists include the award-winning clarinetist Bixby Kennedy, Argentinian composer Ezequiel Viñao, and two string quartets comprised of Kneisel Hall alumni, the Catalyst and Isidore String Quartets. The Isidore String Quartet, whose all four members are Kneisel Hall alumni, was just awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant.
Kneisel Hall hosts talented musicians for three different chamber music programs during June, July and August. The seven-week Young Arts Program serves as the anchor.
Kneisel Hall’s Young Artist Program attracts today’s top young musicians from the most prestigious music schools and conservatories. These young artists work with world-renowned faculty and immerse themselves in a curriculum that focuses exclusively on chamber music.
“For seven weeks, 47 young artists engage in a deep study of chamber music repertoire with peers and faculty. This season we had a record number of applicants and we will have an extraordinarily talented group of young musicians. We will welcome 19 violinists, nine violists, 13 cellists, and six pianists to our campus in June. The students’ intensive study will culminate in a series of compelling Young Artist concerts in July and August,” shares Meredith Amado, the organization’s Executive Director.
One week prior to the Young Artist Festival, the Program for Maine Students welcomes younger local talent from across the state. The final week is the Kneisel Hall Adult Chamber Music Institute. It is open to adult amateur musicians who live and play together on the Kneisel Hall campus.
Amado explains, “For the participants of all three programs, the time spent in Maine is an uninterrupted time for artistic growth, experimentation, and collaboration with peers and coaches of the highest caliber. The tranquillity and peace of Blue Hill is an ideal environment for intensive study.”
Kneisel Hall presents over 50 performances in Blue Hill and the surrounding areas during its nine-week season. Tickets to the weekly Festival Concerts and Open Dress rehearsals, all featuring the esteemed faculty, go on sale on Friday, April 21st.
“Opening up ticket sales to the public is always an exciting moment for the organization,” says Amado. “Our past subscribers have had an opportunity to secure their tickets. Now we’re ready for the rest of the community.”
