Join us at Kneisel Hall in 2023!

Life-long learners of all ages come to Kneisel Hall each summer to delve deeply into chamber music, play with others who share their passion for music, and work with our outstanding faculty. Daily coaching & rehearsals, workshops, sight-reading parties, and nightly cocktail hour make our program a memorable chamber music experience.

Adult amateur musicians are welcome to come with a performing group or a friend with whom you would like to play, or simply attend solo and find new chamber partners at Kneisel. You will spend your time at Kneisel Hall immersed in chamber music, friendship, and beautiful coastal nature. It can’t get better than that!

2023 dates are Tuesday, August 15 to Tuesday, August 22.

– Participants must arrive on campus by mid-afternoon on Tuesday, August 15. Program will commence with a Welcome Meeting at 5pm on August 15. Participants may arrive the night before; dorm check-in will be available starting 5pm on Monday, August 14. 
– Dorm check-out is 11am on August 22. 

The Week: Daily rehearsals, coachings, workshops, sight-reading parties, recitals, and discussions about music, arts, and culture. Additionally, the Kneisel Hall library offers a cornucopia of chamber music literature and recordings.

Sample Day:
7:30 – 8:30 Breakfast
9:00 – 12:00 Rehearsal and coaching
12:00 – 1:00 Lunch
1:00 – 2:30 Assigned sight-reading
2:45 – 4:15 Freelance sight-reading
4:15 – 5:15 Free time
5:15 – 6:00 Socializing on campus
6:00 – 7:00 Dinner
7:30 Attend recital, discussion, workshop, or more playing

On-campus lodging is in rustic dormitory accommodations (shared bath). Some participants choose to find their own off-campus housing. Kneisel Hall does not cover the cost of off-campus lodging.

Fees:
Application fee of $100 is non-refundable and must be paid online at the time of application submission. Program tuition is $1,200 and includes on-campus lodging and meals. Tuition payment is due by July 15, 2023.

ACMI Faculty

Scott Woolweaver – ACMI director and violist, received his degrees at the University of Michigan, Boston University, and New England Conservatory. Former member of the Vaener String Trio, New England Piano Quartette, Boston Composers String Quartet, Ives Quartet. He is Artist-Affiliate at Tufts University.

Jan Pfeiffer – cellist, founder and director of the Lavazza Chamber Ensemble, plays with Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet, and Rhode Island Philharmonic, frequent performer of contemporary music, former director of the Chamber Music Center at Wellesley College.

Mimi Solomon – pianist, has taught at Kinhaven Festival in Vermont, Cornell University, East Carolina University, and Ithaca College. Mimi graduated cum laude in East Asian Studies from Yale, went on to receive a Master of Music from Juilliard, and then studied the fortepiano in Paris.  She is currently on the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim – violinist and composer, faculty member at the Luzerne Music Center, New Amsterdam School, and Opus 118 Harlem School of Music. She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music from The Juilliard School and is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Health & Safety Protocols: All ACMI participants and faculty are required to be vaccinated. Participants may be asked to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to participate in the program. All are also required to bring proof of a negative test result on their first day. If necessary, regular testing, indoor mask-wearing, and physical distancing may be required during the program week. Health and safety protocols are subject to change, and may be relaxed or made more stringent as public health conditions evolve.
