‘Trailblazing’ and ‘Dean of American Composers’ are just a couple of descriptors associated with composers William Grant Still (1895-1978) and George Walker (1922-2018). During their lifetime, they were each a composer of many ‘firsts’, breaking new grounds in American classical music. Yet today, their music is not nearly as understood or appreciated as they deserve.
For our Week 5 program, Kneisel Hall faculty and young artists were very glad for the opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the world of these Great Americans, and to study their music alongside works by Mozart and Dvořák.
Tune in to our YouTube channel starting 7:30pm EDT tonight, Saturday, August 7 to listen to our 5th Virtual Concert. The concert stream will be available on YouTube for one week.
We were also happy to welcome our session 2 faculty to Kneisel Hall, featured in this week’s program!
